SUMMARY:CLAS-Andean Working Studies Group Lecture Series "Poetics of Buen Vivir: The Political Ontology of Indigenous Poetry in Latin America" by Dr. José Carlos Díaz Zanelli
DESCRIPTION:Dear all\,\n \nYou are invited to the CLAS-Andean Working Studies Group Lecture Series “Poetics of Buen Vivir: The Political Ontology of Indigenous Poetry in Latin America” by Dr. José Carlos Díaz Zanelli on November 10 at 11: 15 am (AB-5190).\n \nDr. Díaz Zanelli is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Latin American Literature and Culture at Trinity College. He received a Ph.D. from the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Rutgers University in 2022. He is currently working on a book project tentatively titled The Insurgent Veins of Indigenismo. His research focuses on issues such as the cultural representation of indigenous mobilities and ecological/ontological conflicts in the Andes\, Amazonia\, and Mesoamerica. Analyzing a heterogeneous cultural archive centered on indigenous issues\, he works with a theoretical interface that includes decolonial critique\, political ecology\, continental philosophy\, queer critique of color\, and Latin American Marxism.\n\n\n\nLecture description: Despite the discussions that have institutionalized Buen Vivir (living-well) in the judicial literature of countries such as Bolivia and Ecuador\, in the field of cultural studies\, this concept can also be read as a trope that thematizes a variety of cultural texts. By taking it beyond the role of a helpful rhetorical device for seeking eco-social alternatives to developmentalism\, some notions of Buen Vivir channel specific indigenous politics through socio-cultural devices that reassert notions of ontological sovereignty\, as is the case of contemporary indigenous poetry of Latin America.\n \nThe event is free and open to the public. Please\, spread the word among your networks.

SUMMARY:National Day of Action on Reproductive Justice
DESCRIPTION:This event is being brought to you from GSA\, Rutgers AAUP-AFT\, RUSA\, VPVA and SPAR. We have a tabling event and a panel around various reproductive and LGBTQIA+ issues. We will have a voter registration table\, safe sex practice pamphlets and product giveaways\, informational table from Violence Prevention and Victim’s Assistance group and will be collecting signatures for a petition with various demands on reproductive and LGBTQIA+ issues. \nWe will also have a panel from 6-7pm in the Raritan River Lounge at Student Activities Center on College Avenue Campus and on Zoom. Please RSVP Here \nCome stop by our table on College Ave October 6th between 2-7pm to learn more! \nBackground on this event: Graduate Student Action Network (GSAN) is a growing national group of graduate students in over 50 schools in 30 states who came together in June 2022 to make and demand change for reproductive justice\, LGTBQIA+ rights\, wages and healthcare\, anti-racism\, climate justice and sustainability\, anti-Imperialism and Indigenous struggles\, and more\, through student organization and mobilization. They have called together a national day of action all across the US to make local and national demands around reproductive issues and LGBTQIA+ rights. SUMMARY:NJGVRC Student Day & Gun Violence Research Day
DESCRIPTION:The Gun Violence Research Center Research Day\n9:00 a.m.-3:45 p.m. (May 20)\nThe New Jersey Gun Violence Research Center (GVRC) is one of just three state-funded gun violence research centers in the entire country\, which means we have an important role in gun violence prevention and research. The goals of the GVRC are to conduct and fund cutting-edge scientific research on gun violence prevention\, and also serve as a voice that makes scientific information available to all communities impacted by gun violence. During this free event on May 20th\,  we will showcase gun violence research being done by our leadership team\, GVRC post-doctoral and doctoral students\, community partners\, and researchers we have funded this year. This conference is not looking to engage with simply an academic audience.  Instead\, we’d like this to be a truly community-engaged event\, with community members\, those involved in violence interruption work\, policy makers\, journalists\, students\, educators\, the military\, and others attending. SUMMARY:Creative (Climate) Communications: Productive Pathways for Science\, Policy and Society
DESCRIPTION:  \nRutgers Department of Human Ecology \n Rutgers Climate Institute \nJoint Seminar \nVirtual and In-person* \n\nCreative (Climate) Communications: \nProductive Pathways for Science\, Policy\, and Society \n  \nFriday\, November 12\, 2021 \n11:30 am – 12:30 pm \n \n  \nMax Boykoff\, University of Colorado-Boulder \n\nAbstract: Conversations about climate change at the science-policy interface and in our lives have been stuck. In this presentation\, Boykoff will highlight some dimensions of his recent book ‘Creative (Climate) Communications’ that integrates lessons from the social sciences and humanities to more effectively make connections through issues\, people\, and things that everyday citizens care about. This has worked to enhance our understanding that there is no ‘silver bullet’ to communications about climate change. It argues that a ‘silver buckshot’ approach is needed instead\, where strategies effectively reach different audiences in different contexts. Tactics emanating from this approach can then significantly improve efforts that seek meaningful\, substantive\, and sustained responses to contemporary climate challenges. Boykoff argues that it can also help to effectively re-capture a common or middle ground on climate change in the public arena. The presentation will highlight endeavors that harness creativity to try to better understand what kinds of communications work where\, when\, why\, and under what conditions in the twenty-first-century communication environment. \n\n* This seminar will be held in person on the Rutgers Cook Campus and virtually. A limited number of Rutgers faculty\, staff\, and students will be eligible to attend in person following Rutgers COVID protocols. All are welcome to attend virtually (including members of the public and those not affiliated with Rutgers). \n\n*Everyone must register to attend whether they will participate in person or virtually.  \nREGISTER HERE
