SUMMARY:CLAS-Andean Working Studies Group Lecture Series "Poetics of Buen Vivir: The Political Ontology of Indigenous Poetry in Latin America" by Dr. José Carlos Díaz Zanelli
DESCRIPTION:Dear all\,\n \nYou are invited to the CLAS-Andean Working Studies Group Lecture Series “Poetics of Buen Vivir: The Political Ontology of Indigenous Poetry in Latin America” by Dr. José Carlos Díaz Zanelli on November 10 at 11: 15 am (AB-5190).\n \nDr. Díaz Zanelli is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Latin American Literature and Culture at Trinity College. He received a Ph.D. from the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Rutgers University in 2022. He is currently working on a book project tentatively titled The Insurgent Veins of Indigenismo. His research focuses on issues such as the cultural representation of indigenous mobilities and ecological/ontological conflicts in the Andes\, Amazonia\, and Mesoamerica. Analyzing a heterogeneous cultural archive centered on indigenous issues\, he works with a theoretical interface that includes decolonial critique\, political ecology\, continental philosophy\, queer critique of color\, and Latin American Marxism.\n\n\n\nLecture description: Despite the discussions that have institutionalized Buen Vivir (living-well) in the judicial literature of countries such as Bolivia and Ecuador\, in the field of cultural studies\, this concept can also be read as a trope that thematizes a variety of cultural texts. By taking it beyond the role of a helpful rhetorical device for seeking eco-social alternatives to developmentalism\, some notions of Buen Vivir channel specific indigenous politics through socio-cultural devices that reassert notions of ontological sovereignty\, as is the case of contemporary indigenous poetry of Latin America.\n \nThe event is free and open to the public. Please\, spread the word among your networks.
