Public Trains Available at New Brunswick
- NJ Transit Trains covers the NE Corridor from New York (NY) to New Brunswick (NJ), Princeton (NJ), and Trenton(NJ), and on to Philadelphia (PA). NJ Transit trains run every half an hour, and their frequency reduces to one per hour from 10pm to 6am. There are monthly/semester passes for frequent commuters and special passes for students. For the student passes one would need official verification of enrollment at Rutgers from academic departments at Rutgers. Free NJ transit week : twice a year, usually in the 2nd week of each semester. Students (with IDs) can use NJ transit buses, trains and light rail for free for 7 days.
- AMTRAK plies for long distance trains, with more expensive fares. There are discounts for students (i.e.: Student Advantage Card). More information can be obtained on the AMTRAK website, or by calling 1-800-USA-RAIL.
- PATH trains connect several areas of Jersey City and New York, including the beautiful Hoboken waterfront in NJ, the World Trade Center and New York Penn Station. These trains are usually very economical. More information can be obtained on the PATH train website.
- SEPTA trains are for traveling within Philadelphia and start from the NJT Trenton train station. These are useful to get to the Philadelphia International Airport. More information can be obtained on the SEPTA website.
- NY SUBWAY can be very confusing but are absolutely essential to get around NYC. Make sure you plan your travel and route by using the subway map and other information at New York Subway.
