Get a Driver's License?
From Rutgers GSA Wiki
In New Jersey, drivers' licences are issued by the Motor Vehicle Comission (MVC). In order to register to obtain your license, you have to present a list of your ID documents. Each document has a number of points associated to it, which is refered to as 6 Point ID Verification. According to MVC it was designed to help prevent identity theft by ensuring that licenses are only issued with proper legal documents and verification. Here's the list of all valid documents and their respective associated values.
- These are the locations in the region where you can obtain your driver's license, take written and road tests, if that is the case. You can use your existing license for 2 months in New Jersey. After that you must apply for a NJ license.
- If you already have an International Drivers license you will just need to take a written test based on the New Jersey road rules and regulations and take an eye-test.
- Also, if you are covered under the U.N. Convention, then the driving permit from your country along with documentation such as I-94, I-20 and other means of identification (which you can check online at the DMV's website) you will not be required to take a road test. However you will have to take a written test.
- A driver's license is also a very useful form of identification, even if you don’t plan on getting a car yet. Many places will only accept a US driver’s license or a passport as proof of your age (i.e. to get into a bar, buying alcohol, traveling within the United States, etc.).
The Edison Driving School has some free practice tests on-line or you can take an online test on this car games site
