Change of Address Notifications
- Post Office. You should go to the post office and fill out a change of address form, or go online to the United States Postal Service Website. The post office will forward your mail to your new address. You should still notify everyone who sends you mail of your new address as this service does not last for ever, and it isn't a perfect system - some mail will still slip through and still go to your old address. Note that this NOT forward any mail sent with another postal service such as FEDEX or UPS.
- Rutgers. If you are a student update (1) and (2) below. If you are a TA or GA, then also update (3) and (4).
- (1) Student Permanent Home Address Update: The official permanent address of students used by Rutgers offices.
- (2 & 3) Rutgers Online Directory. This changes, updates or restricts the information that is displayed in the Rutgers Online Directory. Separate links are provided for students and faculty to edit their entries
- (4) Payroll Address Record for Faculty & Staff. This is the database that is passed on to the union.
- Other
- Immigration. Check out the special instructions for international students and scholars on the CIFSS page. On USCIS (Immigration) online change of address instructions and form for address change.
- DMV. If you have a driver's license, update your address here. The DMV will send you new address stickers to place on the back of your driver's license, which is handy as proof that you live at that address (e.g. if you're applying for a residential parking permit).
- IRS. If you change your address at the post office, they will notify the IRS, so you don't really need to update it with them directly. But you can if you want - check it out here.
