INITIATIVES

Keeping Graduate Student Housing Affordable

Affordable housing is an extremely important issue facing the graduate student community. With our limited stipends and other resources, affordable, quality housing is necessary in order for us to meet our basic needs while pursuing our studies.

In Fall 2005, the most expensive student housing (by far) at Rutgers opened its doors at Rockoff Hall on George Street. GSA members have actively engaged the school’s deans, housing, and planning officials to keep graduate housing affordable by focusing on essentials and reducing costs through environmentally and economically sustainable construction and operations methods. Successful lobbying by grad students ensured no increase for family housing and the lowest overall increase in grad student housing in four years.
